Some young persons in their numbers, on Thursday, protested against what they described as incessant illegal arrests by officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The protesters who took their agitation to the main entrance of the state Secretariat in Agodi, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital carried placards of various inscriptions asking government to end EFCC.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, they blocked the entrance to the State Secretariat and its adjourning roads to press on their agitations and demands
Some of them who spoke with newsmen argued that rather than clamp down on corrupt politicians and other public officers for perpetuating rot in governance, EFCC would instead harass youths in a gestapo manner and steal from them unduly as well as confiscate their properties.
Most of the youths denied engaging in any form of internet fraud popularly known as “yahoo yahoo” with claims of having legitimate businesses but have become objects of harassment because of their lifestyles.
The protesters were seen holding banners, some of which read, “Enough of the extortion from EFCC,” and “End EFCC,” among others.
The youths, who also caused traffic around Bodija area of Ibadan, accused the EFCC of carrying out illegal house searches and arrests in their operations.
They sought the review and reform of the agency’s activities.
