Bukola Fatimat ALADA, a 500 level student of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, has been awarded the maiden Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) Scholarship for 2019.
The Scholarship Scheme attracts a prize of Five Hundred Thousand Naira only (N500,000.00) per annum.
Other recipients of the BOSAN maiden are Comfort Nguher from University of Jos; Chioma E. Echebiri from Babcock University; Unyime Anieti Akpan from Afe Babalola University and Olajumoke Janet Sorungbe from the University of Lagos.
The Chairman of the BOSAN Scholarship Sub committee Mr. Dele Adesina SAN, explained that the nominations were made by the various universities upon request by the Committee. He stated that a total of 90 Universities with law faculty were asked to nominate 400 level students with CGP of not less than 4.5 on the scale of 5.00 or its equivalent who have also demonstrated high level of ethical standard and leadership qualities. He stated that only 16 Universities responded to the request with a total of 85 students out of which the five candidates were selected after a written and oral interview.
Alada and others will enjoy the prize in her final year at the University of Ibadan as well as at the Nigerian Law School.
She has the privilege of the enviable status of BOSAN Scholars not only while here and at the Nigerian Law School but throughout the practice years in the profession.
The award ceremony took place on Saturday, 30th November 2019 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Meanwhile, the vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has congrtalated Bukola for the honour and distinction.
“We congratulate Bukola, her Dean, Professors and Law lecturers and her parents, Professor ARA and Mrs Alada for this honour and distinction.
“We equally thank BOSAN for instituting the scheme which is to motivate law students to aspire to excellence in both character and learning and to positively impact on the standard and quality of legal education on a sustainable basis,” Prof. Olayinka said.
