Popular Fuji musician, Taiye Adebisi has disclosed that he has made a lot of fortune in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital than most of his colleagues who reside in Lagos.
According to the musician who is popularly called Currency by his admirers, artistes don’t have to stay in Lagos to be successful, contrary to widely held opinion that Lagos is the entertainment capital of the country.
He, however, said that “there is no way musicians can avoid women, except the artiste is one that people don’t like. We will keep managing ourselves till we get to the promise land.”
Currency, who just commissioned his fourth house in Ibadan, explained that musicians can make it big irrespective of where they reside.
Hear him: “The house I recently opened is my fourth and all my properties are in Ibadan. Fuji artistes usually assume that Lagos is the only place where they can be successful but I believe that you can make it anywhere you are, so far you know what you’re doing. I’m of the opinion that if I take my job seriously in Ibadan, I can also do what other stars are doing in Lagos. I also want to motivate other artistes to know that you can stay in Ibadan and make it too. It is in this same Ibadan that I bought a house and a car for my mother.”
Currency also stated that he is ready to explore the hip hop genre, saying that “I have a hip hop song, Emi gan ni Taye Currency, in which I featured Oritsefemi and it is doing very well. I also have plans to record another song with Reminisce soon. I believe that one should always follow the trend.”
Speaking about his recent house warming party which attracted a lot of bigwigs to Ibadan, he said, “K1 de Ultimate did a lot for me. He performed for free at the event and also gave me a substantial sum of money. Some of the bigwigs that attended included Saheed Osupa, Yinka Ayefele, MC Oluomo, Jam Jay Records, Golden Point, among others, and they gave me a lot of support. The house was declared open by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji.”
