The embattled officials of the Association of Local Government Association of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde over his Supreme Court victory.
In a statement issued by its chairman, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, on Thursday, the association advised Governor Makinde to obey existing High court judgment on the dissolution of elected local government chairmen in the state.
He said “The recipe of the electoral storm is over in Oyo State with the judgement of the Supreme Court which affirmed Your Excellency’s election as the Governor of Oyo State. The ALGON Oyo State Chapter congratulates you on your legal victory at the Apex Court.
“No doubt, battle must be fought and won but the winner must also be magnanimous in victory. In the spirit of sportsmanship, your Excellency must see your victory as victory for the people of Oyo State and not to a section of people, key based on political, religious or tribal affiliations, as a father to all”.
The uinon also advises Makinde to be ready for constructive criticism, saying no government can be long secure without a formidable opposition and guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism and loyalists.
“Without the supremacy of rule of law, which your Excellency is one of the beneficiaries, our Society will be worst for it, as the rule of men will reign supreme. It will not therefore be out of place, to right the wrong of the past by your administration, to obeying the subsisting judgement of the Oyo State High Court and the Supreme Court judgement which prohibit the State Governors from dissolving democratically elected Chairmen and reverse your order of dissolution of local government,” he added.
