Ahead of the 2019 governorship and federal parliamentary elections, leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo South Senatorial District have resolved to adopt the consensus approach in the selection of the party’s governorship candidate.
They also resolved to use consensus method in choosing candidates for various elective offices in each of the constituencies in the Senatorial District.
The meeting which held in Ibadan, had in attendance party leaders, nine local government chairmen in the Senatorial District, party faithful and aspirants to the various elective positions, was convened to forestall possible crises that often trail the emergence of candidates in the build up to general elections.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and made available to our correspondent, the leaders resolved that, “Given the usual acrimony and bitterness that often accompany party primaries, the consensus method should be adopted in choosing the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State.
“Where the consensus method is not feasible, leaders in the Senatorial District should meet to resolve the dispute and where there are contentions, the matter should be referred to the state chapter for amicable resolution.”
The highlight of the meeting was a vote of confidence passed on the state executive of the party led by Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha.
Present at the meeting were the former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, ex-Oyo State Deputy governor, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, Senator Kamorudeen Adedibu, Honourable Yemi Taiwo, and Alhaja Bose Adedibu among others.
