Oyo state government through the Oyo state Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (OYRUWASSA) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Microfinance Institution, Oke Bola have signed a memorandum of understanding on sanitation revolving loan.
The event which which had in attendance representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) took place, at the office of the OYRUWASSA Chairman, on Thursday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The loan is one of the measures to achieve Open Defecation Free in the two chosen pilot local government areas – Egbeda and Ona Ara.
Recall that earlier, the Chariman of OYRUWASSA, Engineer Najeem Omirinde said Governor Seyi Makinde approved 40 million naira as counter part fund for sanitation revolving loan adding that UNICEF has contributed its are own 40 million for the two local government areas.
He said that the money will be put in Microfinance Bank where interested people can approach to get loan for TOILET construction without interest.
With that, a total sum of 80 million naira will be made available for residents of the two local government areas for the construction or completion of toilet facilities towards achieving Open Defecation Free.
Present at the event were the chairman OYRUWASSA, Engineer Najeem Omirinde, UNICEF Wash Specialist for Southwest, Mr Monday Johnson, Chairperson of NUT Oyo Micro Finance Bank, MD, NUT Oke Bola Ibadan, management and of the Agency, Director of Environment of Egbeda and Ona Ara local government areas and others.
