The acting rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State Mr Olufemi Ipadeola, has tasked the new students of the institution to shun all forms of vices and keep away from associations that will not only tarnish their image and that of their families but also destroy their academic careers and future.
The rector, while addressing the new intakes during the 2018/2019 matriculation ceremony last Friday enjoined the students to respect the rules and regulations of the institution as breaching of them would attract appropriate sanctions.
According to the public relation officer of the institution, a total of 2, 698 was admitted into the 2018/2019 academic session at the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) level and 3, 250 into the Higher National Diploma (HND) level respectively.
Ipadeola said the institution had zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices, hard drugs, sexual harassment, negative mode of dressing, theft and other forms of immoral behaviour, advising the new students to comport themselves in accordance with the objectives and standards of conducts established by the polytechnic.
According to him, “the institution would not compromise its hard-earned image for any damaging misconduct from any student. This image has not come by chance but was earned through dint of hard work, dedication to duty and a strong sense of discipline among staff and students.
“A task force has been inaugurated to conduct periodic search into the lecture theatre, hostels, entrance gates, and so forth to fish out deviant students. The Polytechnic Ibadan would not award its certificate to any student who lacks morals. We believe education without good morals is null and void.”
He hinted that the programmes being run in the institution are fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), as well as other relevant professional bodies concerned with programmes accreditation.
“It is imperative to inform you that activities of this institution have been fully computerised. In view of this fact, you must be computer literate in order to be abreast of developmental trends in your chosen career.
“I assure that all facilities and other resources required to fully equip you for the challenges ahead are available and will continue to be improved upon,” Ipadeola noted.
