The Ibadan PlayHouse will enrich the Sallah experience of many theatre lovers in Lagos and Osogbo this weekend. It plans to do this by staging a play each in the two cities.
Information from the group indicates that its management is particularly thrilled that it is landing in Osun State for the first time.
It noted in a statement signed by one of its top actors, Ropo Ewenla, “Going to Osogbo, for the first time in close to two years since it started operating, Ibadan Play House is breaking this new ground with a presentation of Crown Troupe of Africa’s Moremi (RSV), written by Ayodele Arigbabu and directed by Segun Adefila. This will take place at the WOCDIF Event Centre, Hebron Garden, Ikirun Western Bye-Pass, Osogbo. There will be two shows, one at 3pm and the other at 6pm.
“Moremi (RSV) recently made a tour of Lagos, Ibadan and Ife (OAU) and received quite remarkable receptions, thus justifying Ibadan PlayHouse’s continuous interest in it, especially as a choice of play to open a new venue.
“It is expected that the WOCDIF venue in Osogbo will henceforth become a regular venue to be included in the IPH growing circuit of performances in Oyo, Osun and Lagos States.”
In Lagos, at the same date and time, the same production house, in conjunction with its Lagos partner, Concrete Communications, will present Solomon Iguanre’s Oh! Obedeki! a hilarious parlour comedy directed by the playwright, at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, Lagos.
“This will make its 18th month of back-to-back monthly performances at the Lagos Country Club. The club now under a new administration, has stepped forward to rejig the partnership it has with Ibadan PlayHouse to make its regular performance pilgrimages from Ibadan to Lagos more worthwhile for both parties,” it noted.
Meanwhile, back in Osogbo, at the WOCIDF venue, two films of Tunde Kelani’s Mainframe, Opomulero Productions, Yeepa! and Dazzling Mirage, will be showing two times a day at 3pm, and 6pm, respectively, only Friday and Saturday at the Glory to Glory Cinema, Ife- Ibadan Rd.
