Four Chinese nationals handling the Ibadan-Lagos standard gauge railway project who were kidnapped by unknown gunmen last Wednesday along Ibadan-Abeokuta border town have regained freedom.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ogun state police Command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed their release on Monday.

The police spokesperson told this reporter that the abducted Chinese workers were released by their captors after a manhunt launched by the police .

He did not, however, gave details on how the four Chinese men were released by the gunmen who violently seized them, after killing a police inspector attached to the Chinese workers.

The firearm, AK-47 rifle with the police inspector was reportedly taken away by the kidnappers after gunning him down in cold blood.

It would be recalled that the AK-47 wielding kidnappers who stormed the site of the rail project at Adeaga/Alaagba in Odeda Local government area of Ogun state ran into forest with their victims.

According to the Baale of Alaagba village, Chief Adekunle Olabamiji, the fierce looking gunmen suspected to be fulanis had laid ambush in the surrounding forest for the expatriates.

He said it was shocking to witnessed such a gory scene , even when the railway workers were always guarded by policemen and soldiers .

The kidnappers were said to have ceased their victims immediately after disarming the security men and headed to the forest with the Chinese rail workers.

Speaking on the incident, Mr. Azeez Adila, the youth leader of Adeaga village, narrated how members of the Oodua People’s Congress ( OPC) gave a hot chase to the kidnappers into the forest , searching the entire bush path in an attempt to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue their victims.

He said despite the efforts by the village youths, who mobilised OPC members into the forest, the kidnappers could not be traced as they disappeared with the Chinese expatriates.
