Governor Kassim Shettima has ordered Akin Alabi’s NairaBet and other agents of online gambling sites out of Borno.
NairaBet is owned by Ibadan-born Oloye Akin Alabi.
While speaking at the 14th Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by Borno Radio Television Corporation in Maiduguri, last Saturday, he said, “I have given directives to all Bet-Naija and Nairabet agents in the state to leave immediately. Drug and substance abuse gives birth to all immoral vices hence government’s determination to fight all forms of social vices.”
The governor also urged Muslim faithfuls in the state to unite and support the government’s fight to rescue the state from the escalation of social vices.
Habu Kale Tijjani, special adviser to the governor told Insideoyo.com that the decision was borne out of popular outcry from the people of the state against it.
He said: “They are spoiling the young people and besides Borno being a Muslim populated state, Gambling is prohibited.”
