A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Engineer Mufutau Open Salawu has urged the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to change the name of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) to Ladoke Akintola University (LAU).
The Ogbomoso-born Civil Engineer said this in a statement made available to insideoyo.com on Saturday.
Open Salawu said this will enable the institution to offer more courses and expand its coast.
He also commended the Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola for his deal and willingness.
He said: “Osun state government gave out LAUTECH because it’s no longer economic viable for the state of Osun. Governor Seyi Makinde should amend the law that established LAUTECH and change the name to Ladoke Akintola University (LAU) Ogbomoso. This will enable the University to offer more courses and expand the coast of School, increase the intakes and economic activities of Ogbomoso.
“It doesn’t matter whose tenure that sole ownership of LAUTECH is realized but the right thing has to be done always. When Governor Akala and Governor Oyinlola are in the same party We could not get the ownership despite efforts by Oyo state government and deliberate moves by Governor Akala in upgrading General Hospital Ogbomoso to Teaching Hospitals standard and we hope it will serve the purpose now.
“Likewise when Governor Ajimobi and Governor Aregbesola in the same political party could not get the sole ownership deal. Now that we have two Governors from different parties, we got the deal. It’s important we all realise the sincerity of purpose of Osun state Government under the leadership of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola in this deal and willingness of Governor Seyi Makinde and hope it will serve as a good beginning of a Conventional State University in Oyo state and Ogbomoso in particular.”
