Thousands of people from Okeogun and Ogbomoso zones which make up Oyo North Senatorial district yesterday benefited from Senator Abdulfatai Buhari economic empowerment scheme.
At the event which held at NYSC permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, beneficiaries including traditional rulers, artisan, students’ widow religious organizations and communities who were drawn from the 13 local government areas of the Senatorial districts went home with empowerment materials worth several millions of naira.
The distributed items included 36 cars, 300 motorcycle, 300 sewing machines,over 400 grinding machine, 40 deep freezers, power generating sets and 13 electric transformers.
Buhari, who was a former member of the House of Representatives, also distributed bursary and scholarship award of N20,000 each to 200 higher institutions’ students while he awarded the sum of N25,000 each to 200 widows, who were carefully selected across the senatorial district.
In his welcome address, Buhari who chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, said the empowerment program was to appreciate his constiuent and render support for economic advancement.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmaker added that “as a senator, I have not been found wanting in the discharge of my responsibility to my constituents and the development of Nigeria through meaningful contributions at the plenary and pushing forward issues that affects my constituents.”
He also informed the gathering of ongoing efforts to facilitate infrastructural development and other projects that will bring economic development to the state and Oyo North Senatorial districts.
He added that work is ongoing to ensure Ikere Gorge Dam is put in proper shape, saying that he facilitated the rehabilitation of Iseyin –Oyo road, Ogbomoso-Oyo road and working on the establishment of University of Agriculture and Technology in Oke Ogun and others
While reiterating his commitment to the development of his constituency and the state at large, the lawmaker called for more understanding. He charged his constituents to keep faith with President Muhammadu Buhari led government in his bid to restore sanity and progress into the nation
Governor Abiola Ajimobi, while commending the lawmaker described Buhari as the best lawmaker the state ever had. “I won’t be wrong if I say Senator Buhari is the best lawmaker in Oyo state, he has performed better than I did when I was at the Senate; he deserves to be commended for the good job.
Ajimobi who led some members of his executives and aides to the event said “APC is lucky to have people with genuine interest to serve the masses, Senator Buhari is a true representative of the people of Oyo North.
Speaking on political development in the state, the governor said the party will not impose any candidates for chairmanship and local government chairmanship election in the party but call for more understanding so as to ensure careful selection of candidates in the forthcoming election.
Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Akin Oke, in his address commended the senator for keeping to his campaign promise and been a good ambassador of the party in the state
Oke, who hails from the same town with Buhari, led the party executives from both state and local government to the event, saying “The party appreciates Senator Buhari’s milk of kindness. I urge the beneficiaries to make good use of the materials.”
One of the beneficiaries, Oba AbdulGaniyy Adekunle Ajinese Ologunebi, the Aseyin of Iseyin while speaking with journalists lauded the lawmaker for considering traditional rulers and the masses in his gesture and pray for his success
The monarch urged the lawmaker not to relent in his bid to ensure infrastructural development and economic advancement of this constituency and the state at large.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, federal and state lawmakers, party leaders among others were among the dignitaries that graced the event.
