For the second time in a week, the lawmaker representing Oyo East / Oyo West state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Muideen Olagunju, was absent at the state-wide congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Olagunju, a lawyer, was elected on the platform of Accord in 2015. Keen political watchers had expected him to join PDP after his godfather, former governor Rashidi Ladoja, joined the party few weeks ago. Olagunju’s colleagues in the House have all joined the party.
Last week, at LA Primary School, Jabata, Oyo, where the PDP held his congress in ward 7 of Oyo East Local government area, the social media savvy lawmaker was absent.
Today, at Methodist Primary School, Apaara, where the PDP congress in Oyo East LGA took place, he was also absent.
Sources within the party disclosed that Olagunju is yet to join the party, adding that “but I can confirm that the leadership of Accord has collapsed into PDP as they attended the PDP meeting last week.”
Another source said the lawmaker may be on his way to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmaker had defected from the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN to Accord in 2011. He felt cheated with the manner that led to the emergence of his aunt, now Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, who wanted to run for House of Representatives election, as the ACN House of Assembly candidate, an action that did not go down well with him.
Olagunju was, however, unavailable for comment as calls made to his number were not picked.
