Oyo State Government has announced the temporary closure of  General Gas-Akobo flyover from 7pm on Friday, July 15, to 6am on Monday, July 18.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin, on Friday.

According to him, the temporary closure of the flyover is to allow for Asphaltic Surfacing of  its approaches from the two ends.

Sangodoyin urged motorists and commuters to cooperate with security agencies and Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) by honouring diversions and road signs that would be put in place.

“This is to inform the general public that the new Overhead Bridge at Basorun/ General Gas Area of Ibadan would be closed from 7pm on Friday 15th July, 2022, to 6am on Monday, 18th July, 2022. The closure is to allow for the Asphaltic Surfacing of the Bridge and its Approaches from the two ends.

“It will be recalled that the Bridge was opened on Friday 8th July, 2022 to ease the expected heavy traffic in that axis during Eid-el-Kabir holiday.

“The general public is enjoined to honour diversions and road signs that would be put in place. Also, kindly cooperate with the contractor as well as officers of the various security and traffic management agencies to mitigate inconveniences, while ensuring prompt completion of the affected section for the ultimate benefit of the public,” the statement read.
