One of the gubernatorial aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, yesterday, gave bursary awards to indigent students of Oyo state. The events which is the 11th edition of Seyi Makinde Annual Bursary Awards was held inside the Ogunlesi Hall, UCH, Ibadan.
While speaking, a member of the Seyi Makinde Scholarship Board, Mr Akin Akindeji said ten thousands (10,000) indigent students applied for the bursary awards while two thousand five hundred (2,500) students were shortlisted and awarded.
Akindeji added that the sum of fifty million naira (50m) was awarded to the two thousand five hundred (2,500) students shortlisted.
In his speech, Engineer Seyi Makinde lamented that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, led by Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has failed to give proper attention to educational development in the state
Makinde noted that contrary to the advice by UNESCO that at least 26 percent of the budget should be allocated to Education, the Ajimobi’s administration allocated less than that.
He also promised to reintroduce the thirty students per class policy introduced by the former governor of Oyo state, Senator Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja.
“We will ensure teacher’s are adequately motivated. We will take teachers welfare far beyond cosmetics. We will implement the policy of 30 students per class” He said.
