One of the female aspirants in the build up to the 2019 governorship election in Oyo under the platform of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), has lost ticket to his closest rival, Olalekan Ayorinde.
The US-based business mogul, won the party’s primary in a poll conducted on Saturday, September 15, 2018, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Thousands of ANRP members drawn from the various Local Governments of Oyo State gathered on Jogor Centre for the party primary, a total of 102 confirmed delegates participated at the contest after thorough screening.
The governorship primary eventually resulted in Olalekan Ayorinde polling 99 votes while Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi Aliyu scored only one vote and two votes were voided.
In a Facebook post, Ayorinde said it is time to liberate the state from what he termed bad leadership.
He wrote, “The journey of a thousand miles start with a step. Today, the great people of ANRP gave me their maximum support by voting for me at the party’s primaries and through that same support i won.
“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate my great party ANRP for a free and fair primaries, i also want to appreciate everyone who came out to support me, this truly shows that we all thirst for good governance and for believing in me as the right man for the job.
“We are just getting started and we won’t stop until we get our mandate come 2019. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and i promise not to let you all down… It is time to liberate Oyo State from bad leadership…thank you #believe2019.”
Before now, the female aspirant has intensified efforts to win the Guber primary and featured on BBC Yoruba service.
In his post-election address, Mr. Olalekan Ayorinde praised the party members for reposing their confidence in him promising to do everything humanly possible to lead them to victory at the general elections.
Ayorinde used the forum to enjoin Nigerian youths to take advantage of the ‘Not too young to rule’ Act and come out openly and vie for elective offices in the country.
